NordVPN Renewal Price (2026): What Every Plan Costs After the Deal

Published Oct 13, 2026

NordVPN's renewal price in the US is $139.08 a year for Basic, $219.48 for Complete and $296.28 for Prime, before tax. Those figures come from the renewal table in NordVPN's own terms (last updated 10 June 2026), and they apply from your second bill onward after a 1-year or 2-year first term. Getting in costs far less: NordVPN's US pricing page, which we read on 22 October 2026, listed the 2-year Basic plan at $3.49 per month, charged as $94.23 for the first 27 months.

Does NordVPN sell a 3-year plan? No. The pricing page lists 1-month, 1-year and 2-year terms only, and the longest, the 2-year plan, runs 27 months with its three extra months. So the cheapest way to keep NordVPN for three years is Basic on the 2-year plan plus one renewal year: $233.31 in total, more than half of it the renewal. It suits someone who will run a VPN every day for years and wants NordVPN in particular. If you need a VPN for a short trip, or you want a second bill that looks like the first, read the sections on terms and alternatives before you pay.

Every figure below is in US dollars, excludes sales tax, and was read from NordVPN's own pricing page and renewal table. Prices move often and differ by country, so treat this as a dated snapshot and compare it with the total in your own checkout.

The price list: every plan and term

NordVPN currently sells three plans to new US customers, Basic, Complete and Prime, each on three terms: 1 month, 1 year and 2 years. There is no 3-year term. When we read the pricing page on 22 October 2026, both longer terms came with three extra months, so a 2-year first bill covers 27 months and a 1-year first bill covers 15. NordVPN's support centre confirms that 1-year and 2-year plans are paid in full at purchase, and that the only way to pay month by month is the 1-month plan.

The 3-year column adds the first bill to the renewals needed to stay covered for 36 months; the 1-month rows assume the monthly price doesn't change. All three plans share the VPN itself, ten simultaneous devices, Scam and phishing protection, the basic Dark Web Monitor and the 30-day money-back guarantee. Complete adds a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage, Call and Message protection for phones, Dark Web Monitor Pro, US bank transaction monitoring, and an anti-malware scanner plus an ad and tracker blocker that the pricing page marks as desktop only. Prime layers on credit monitoring, credit-freeze guidance, and identity-theft and cyber-extortion insurance of up to $1,000,000 and $100,000 (for US residents outside New York). A dedicated IP and the Incogni data-removal service are optional add-ons at checkout.

Plan names change more often than the prices. The renewal table still carries older tiers, Standard, Plus, Ultimate and Ultra among them, because people who bought those plans renew into them; Plus, for example, renews at $179.88 a year. If your account shows a name that isn't on the pricing page, look that name up in the table rather than assuming you're on Basic.

The renewal cliff, tier by tier

The intro rate is a first-term price. When the term ends, NordVPN moves you onto a 1-year term at the table price, and the subscription renews automatically unless you switch that off. Expressed per month, Basic goes from $3.49 to $11.59, Complete from $3.99 to $18.29 and Prime from $6.99 to $24.69. For 2-year buyers that is roughly 3.3 times the intro rate on Basic, 3.5 times on Prime and about 4.6 times on Complete, the steepest jump of the three.

Start on a 1-year plan and the jump looks smaller only because the intro price was higher: Basic moves from $4.99 to $11.59 a month (about 2.3 times), Complete from $5.99 to $18.29 (3.1 times) and Prime from $8.99 to $24.69 (2.7 times). The renewal itself is identical whichever term you began on. If the intro-then-renewal model is new to you, our explainer on how intro and renewal pricing work across VPNs covers the mechanics.

The discount badges on the pricing page are worth decoding. Basic's 2-year plan shows "Save 69%" beside a struck-through $312.93, and $312.93 is exactly 27 months at the $11.59 renewal rate. NordVPN's renewal terms say as much: savings from an introductory price "are compared to the current renewal price". So the percentage isn't measured against an imaginary list price; it's measured against what you'll pay later, which makes it a fair preview of the cliff.

The renewal invoice is also the one charge NordVPN's refund policy leaves out. Its 30-day guarantee applies to a first purchase; a renewed period isn't eligible unless the law where you live says it must be.

Three-year cost of each plan

A per-month price hides how the bills actually land, so we added them up. For each plan we took the first bill and then added renewals until the subscription was paid through at least 36 months. On the 2-year term that takes one renewal, which in fact keeps you covered to month 39.

Stacked bar chart of three-year cost on NordVPN's 2-year plan, in US dollars before tax. Basic: first bill $94.23 plus renewal year $139.08 equals $233.31. Complete: $107.73 plus $219.48 equals $327.21. Prime: $188.73 plus $296.28 equals $485.01.

Basic on the 2-year plan comes to $233.31 over that span, Complete to $327.21 and Prime to $485.01. The renewal year is the larger share in every case: about 60% of the Basic total, 61% of Prime's and 67% of Complete's. Spread across the 39 months it buys, the Basic total works out at roughly $5.98 a month, about 71% above the headline $3.49.

Year four and later simply repeat the renewal price, $139.08 for Basic, unless NordVPN changes its table. NordVPN says it emails customers before a renewal price change takes effect, and its terms also keep the option of A/B testing what renewals cost, so the figure printed in your own Nord Account outranks anything published elsewhere, this page included.

Monthly vs 1-year vs 2-year: which term is cheapest over 3 years

The term you pick decides how much of the intro discount you get to keep. Using Basic, the chart shows the running total you would have paid at each month of a three-year stretch on each term.

Line chart of cumulative cost of NordVPN Basic over 36 months, US dollars before tax. 1-month plan: $14.99 every month, reaching $539.64. 1-year plan: $74.85 at the start, $213.93 after the renewal at month 15, $353.01 after month 27. 2-year plan: $94.23 at the start, $233.31 after the renewal at month 27.

Three crossover points fall out of the numbers. For four months or less, the 1-month plan is cheapest: four months at $14.99 is $59.96, under the $74.85 a 1-year plan costs. From five months up to fifteen, the 1-year plan wins, because its first bill now covers 15 months. Past fifteen months, the 2-year plan is cheapest at every point, because the 1-year path hits its first $139.08 renewal at month 15 while the 2-year plan's first bill still has 12 months to run.

Across the whole 36 months, Basic costs $539.64 on the monthly plan (if the $14.99 price holds; NordVPN's renewal table lists only 1-year renewals), $353.01 on 1-year terms and $233.31 on the 2-year plan. The same order holds for Complete and Prime, as the table above shows. One point in the 1-month plan's favour: the pricing page lists the 30-day money-back guarantee on every term, monthly included. Our comparison of monthly, annual and 2-year VPN plans applies the same arithmetic to other providers.

How to pay less: timing, reminders and the extras you skip

No coupon rewrites the renewal table, but a few legitimate moves change what you end up paying over the life of the subscription.

  • Switch auto-renewal off soon after you buy, in the Billing section of your Nord Account. The renewal then becomes a decision you take near the end of the term rather than a charge you spot afterwards.
  • Put the renewal date in your calendar a month early. That leaves time to set the renewal figure shown in your account against what a new plan costs that week, tax included.
  • Buy the tier you will use. Complete renews at $80.40 a year more than Basic, and most of what it adds (a password manager, cloud storage, the desktop malware scanner) only pays off if you would otherwise buy those tools separately.
  • Use the discounts NordVPN itself lists: an extra reduction for students and apprentices aged 18 to 26, free subscription time for referring friends, and seasonal Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions. NordVPN's refer-a-friend page offers three free months for each friend who buys (a support article still says one month), and referrals aren't available on plans bought through the App Store or Google Play. Our student VPN discount comparison shows how the student offer stacks up against the public deal.

What about letting the plan lapse and buying again at the intro price? NordVPN's renewal terms describe the intro rate as an offer attached to an initial purchase, and none of the pages we read says whether a returning customer qualifies for it again. If you want to try, look at what checkout offers while you're logged in to your existing account before the renewal date, not after, because a renewal that has already gone through can't be refunded under the standard policy.

Taxes, currencies and app-store prices

The US pricing page prints "Sales tax may apply" under every price, and the renewal table explains the rule: Nord adds the sales tax, VAT or GST of the country you named at your first purchase, at the rate in force on the day of the charge. Tax appears as its own line in the checkout order summary, so the total you approve is the number to compare, not the headline monthly figure.

Prices are set per currency rather than converted on the fly. The renewal table lists Basic at €139.08 and Complete at €219.48 in the euro zone, the same numerals as the dollar prices, while in the UK they are £104.28 and £163.08. Countries without a supported local currency are billed in dollars, and if your card runs in a different currency, your bank's exchange rate and any foreign-transaction fee come on top.

Buying inside an app changes things as well. NordVPN's support centre says plans bought via Apple's App Store or the Play Store can carry slightly different prices and taxes from a web purchase, and the store rather than Nord Account then runs the renewal. If price is what matters most, the website checkout is the one the figures on this page describe.

Edge cases that change the bill

  • You started a free trial. NordVPN's 7-day trial, offered on selected 1- and 2-year plans with a card or PayPal in countries including the US, becomes the plan you picked at the price shown when the trial began. NordVPN says it emails a reminder before the first charge.
  • You're on a legacy plan. Renewal follows your plan's own row in the table, so a Plus subscriber renews at $179.88, not at the Basic price.
  • You added a dedicated IP. The add-on renews separately at $81.48 a year in the US table, on top of the VPN renewal.
  • The charge doesn't match what you expected. NordVPN's own list of causes includes the renewal price itself, a different bundle picked by mistake, an add-on, app-store pricing, currency conversion and tax.
  • You're on the 1-month plan. There's no renewal cliff, only the same price every month, and twelve months of Basic that way ($179.88) costs about 2.4 times a 1-year plan's first bill, which covers 15 months.

If one of these applies and the charge has already been taken, the money-back rules decide what happens next; our guide to VPN money-back guarantees explains how the 30-day windows compare across providers.

Is NordVPN worth it at the renewal price?

At $139.08 a year, NordVPN Basic renews higher than the entry plans of the other major providers we track. For comparison, the US renewal prices we read on 9 October 2026 were $56.94 a year for CyberGhost's 2-year plan, $79 for Surfshark Starter, $83.88 for Proton VPN Plus and $99.95 for ExpressVPN Basic, while Mullvad keeps one flat price of €5 a month, with no intro discount to lose. What NordVPN gives you for the gap is ten devices per account, a wider security bundle on the upper tiers, and a no-logs claim checked in six independent assurance engagements; Deloitte carried out the most recent one over November and December 2025.

Our view: NordVPN at its renewal price makes sense if you will use the Complete extras, or if you simply prefer NordVPN's apps and track record and accept paying for them. If the VPN alone is what you need, the renewal is the strongest argument for a cheaper provider, and our cheap VPN page, sorted by three-year cost, lays out the options. If NordVPN is the one you want, you can see NordVPN's current plans and prices (affiliate link; it doesn't change what we publish), and set that renewal reminder the same day.

Common questions

Does NordVPN have a 3-year plan?
No. On 22 October 2026 NordVPN's US pricing page listed 1-month, 1-year and 2-year terms only. The longest is the 2-year plan with three extra months: $94.23 for 27 months on Basic, after which it renews at $139.08 a year. Three years on that route cost $233.31 before tax.
How much does NordVPN cost after the first year?
In the US, NordVPN renews at $139.08 a year for Basic, $219.48 for Complete and $296.28 for Prime, before tax, according to its renewal table (updated 10 June 2026). That works out at about $11.59, $18.29 and $24.69 a month.
How much does NordVPN cost per month?
On the 2-year plan, NordVPN listed Basic at $3.49 a month, Complete at $3.99 and Prime at $6.99 when we checked on 22 October 2026, all paid up front. The 1-month plan costs $14.99, $19.99 or $29.99, and renewals work out at $11.59 a month or more.
Does NordVPN raise the price when you renew?
Yes. The intro price covers the first term only; after that the plan renews automatically for a year at the renewal price. NordVPN says it emails you before any change to that price, and you can turn auto-renewal off in your Nord Account.
Can I get a refund on a NordVPN renewal charge?
Not under NordVPN's standard policy. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers your first purchase, and renewed periods are excluded unless local consumer law requires a refund. Switch auto-renewal off in advance if you might not continue.
Why is my NordVPN checkout price higher than the advertised price?
Usually because of tax, an add-on such as a dedicated IP, a different bundle, or your bank's currency conversion. NordVPN adds sales tax or VAT at checkout and shows it in the order summary, and app-store prices can differ slightly from the website.
